Plexi
Patient management for vets
Overview
In early 2018, I co-founded a business concerned with addressing the complete lack of digital workflow solutions for veterinary healthcare. Over the next five years we built a class-leading solution for veterinary practices of all types and sizes to revolutionize their day to day task management, record keeping and billing accuracy.
The Problem
One of the major challenges faced by veterinary clinicians is the lack of access to digital workflow planning for their patients in their practice. This absence of a digital solution hinders the efficient and streamlined management of patient care and treatment. Without a digital workflow planning system, veterinary clinicians are often forced to rely on manual and paper-based methods, which are not only time-consuming but also prone to errors and inconsistencies. This not only affects the quality of patient care but also leads to inefficiencies and delays in the overall veterinary practice operations.
Research
User research played a crucial role in the development of Plexi. To gather insights, we conducted user interviews with the help of industry contacts and observed the day-to-day operations of different practices using a "fly on the wall" approach. These interviews, conducted with various teams, served as the foundation for creating user personas, which were instrumental in identifying the essential core features for Plexi.
Once we had an filtered users needs down to “must haves” we went about building out our information architecture using card sorting to inform groupings and we went about building out our prototype for a limited time test run in a live practice.
Solution
Based on our research findings, we have concluded that the product should include a flexible task manager for individual patient tasks. This makes our concerns about enabling patient information editing from within each sheet unnecessary. Instead of only viewing "larger" tasks per patient as a whole and tracking them on a macro-scale, users strongly prefer the ability to digitize micro-tasks such as individual injections, temperature measurements, and more.
